Phase 1

Phase 1 treatment refers to the initial stage of a two-phase approach in correcting dental alignment issues, typically initiated in younger children, often between the ages of 7 and 10. This phase aims to address specific problems such as overcrowding, jaw discrepancies, or severe bite issues early on, allowing for better alignment and positioning of teeth as the child grows. Phase 1 treatment may involve the use of appliances like braces, expanders, or retainers to guide jaw growth and create space for permanent teeth. It sets the foundation for Phase 2 treatment, which occurs once all permanent teeth have erupted, focusing on fine-tuning the alignment for a perfectly balanced smile.

Phase 2

Phase 2 treatment focuses on fine-tuning the alignment of the permanent teeth to achieve an optimal bite, aesthetic appearance, and overall oral health. This stage usually begins when most or all of the permanent teeth have erupted, typically in adolescence or early teenage years. During Phase 2 treatment, orthodontic appliances such as braces, clear aligners, or retainers may be used to address remaining dental issues such as overcrowding, spacing, misalignment, or bite discrepancies. The goal is to ensure that each tooth is properly positioned within the dental arches for a harmonious and functional bite.

Surgical Ortho

A surgical case in orthodontics typically refers to a scenario where orthodontic treatment alone cannot address the dental or skeletal discrepancies effectively. In such cases, orthodontic treatment is combined with orthognathic surgery, also known as corrective jaw surgery. This surgical procedure aims to correct severe jaw misalignments or skeletal discrepancies that cannot be corrected through braces or other orthodontic appliances. It is often recommended for cases of severe overbites, underbites, open bites, or asymmetry that significantly impact a patient’s dental and facial aesthetics as well as their ability to chew, speak, and breathe properly.
